Akita Prefecture is a sakura treasure trove and an integral destination for any Tohoku Cherry Blossom Photo Workshop Tour. Several festivals run concurrently with the full bloom of Akita’s various sakura. In one park in the northern region of the prefecture has over 800 Somei yoshino (Prunus yedoensis) cherry blossom trees lining a lakeshore which are also illuminated until well into the evening. If a calming and beautiful stroll along a sakura lined path is what you enjoy as part of your cherry blossom photography tour, then Akita is the right destination for you, but this is only one of the many locations sprinkled around Akita prefecture to tantalize your sakura appetite. Yet another location is reminiscent of the Kansai region, actually being referred to as the Kyoto of the Michinoku, the former name for the Tohoku region. The Edo Period samurai residence in the area echoes the traditions of a time in Japanese history when samurai lords would stride along the paths during sakura season on take in the 400 weeping cherry blossoms (Prunus pendula) on the grounds. The beauty of these cherry blossoms trees is so profound that nearly half of the trees on the property are designated as Japanese natural monuments. Here, too, the cherry blossom trees are illuminated, so participants may peacefully amble the same paths of samurai while taking once in a lifetime cherry blossom photos. These are only two of the potential stops on a Tohoku cherry blossom photo workshop itineraries, so what are you waiting for?
