Hokkaido Birding Photography Workshops - South East Region

Hokkaido Birding Photography Workshops in the South East is sometimes referred to as a Birding Photography Paradise.  One region in particular, the Notsuke Peninsula, is known for its enormous variety of birds and other wildlife that inhabit its regions.  It is such a vital natural preserve that is has been designated a Ramsar Convention wetland, as other areas in Hokkaido.

The name ‘Notsuke’ itself has roots in the indigenous people of Japan, the Ainu.  The name means ‘lower jaw’, which is thought to be derived from the overall shape of the peninsula.  But please don’t just take our word for it, Japan Dreamscapes Photography invites you to see it with your own eyes on a Hokkaido Birding Photo Workshop.

The Notsuke Peninsula is a little over 25 kilometers long and benefits from having an very even land distribution so photographers can enjoy an uninterrupted panoramic view of their surroundings.  Among this view is one region called the ‘Narawara’ where Yezo Deer and birds of many different varieties of birds have been sighted.  The photo ops about on this small piece of land on Hokkaido.

Nature’s offerings are so bountiful in this region of Hokkaido, that 235 distinct bird species have been spotted here, and that represents nearly half of the species that are thought to occupy the entire nation of Japan.  Common sights on the Notsuke Peninsula are White-Tailed Sea Eagles, which can been seen not only in winter but also at other times of the year.  Also during the winter, Steller’s Sea Eagles are also frequently seen here among the pack ice or sometimes they take a moment to roost on some of the trees in the abundant nature all around you.  Another all-star for birding photography on the Notsuke Peninsula is the Whooper Swan.  These are only some of the many birds you can enjoy while on a Hokkaido Winter Birding Photo Tour.
